Who is the Perfect Candidate

The ideal Local Leader is passionate about astronomy, community-driven, and organized. Leading a local chapter is a part-time commitment (6–10 hours per week), and you will fit one or more of these profiles:

Influencer Amateur Astronomer

You create engaging content for online communities and inspire fellow stargazers who turn to you for guidance.

Professional Astronomer

You work or conduct research in astronomy/astrophysics and regularly share knowledge with peers or students.

Community Organizer

You plan events and meetups and know how to bring everyone together, from volunteers to sponsors.

Who would become a great Chapter Leader?

Anyone active in {field} outreach—whether professionally, as an educator, or as a dedicated amateur—and excited to spend ~6–10 hours/week running local events.

Can I lead a chapter alongside a full-time job or studies?

Yes, absolutely. Most of our leaders balance this role with work or school; you can also build a small team to share responsibilities.

Where can I find support and resources?

All leaders get access to our online Leader Portal, training webinars by our expansion team, and a private Slack group of peers worldwide.

Will chapter events be held online or in person?

At the start of each semester, chapter leaders select the format either online, in-person or hybrid, which one works best for their community. You’ll decide your semester’s delivery mode in advance so you can plan, promote and run events smoothly.

Do I need a background in {field} to lead a chapter?

Yes and no. How? Local Leaders can be amateur or professional astronomers, or skilled community organizers who know how to organize events and bring together mentors, experts, partners and influencers.

If you're not an {field} expert yourself, you should still understand the field well enough to build a team of local leaders who can contribute the necessary knowledge.
